Comments Thread For: Makabu Hammers Final Nail on Glen Johnson's Career

If former champion Glen Johnson (54-19-2) is smart, he will retire from the sport. Thei last Saturday night at the Grand Hôtel de Kinshasa in Kinshasa, Congo - Johnsonw as stopped for only the second time in his career. Cruiserweight ****er Ilinga "Junior" Makabu (17-1, 16KOs) stopped him in the ninth round to pick up the vacant WBC International cruiserweight championship.

Johnson, 45-years-old, has not been stopped since a 1997 defeat at the hands of Bernard Hopkins. Johnson appeared to retire after losing four fights in a row from 2011 to 2012. He then came back in 2013 to rack up three wins against overmatched opponents. [Click Here To Read More]

Time to call it a day champ. Massive respect to the Road Warrior for everything he's achieved.

Too many of these old timers just wont hang em up. None of us has the right to tell him when he should retire, though.

Makabu can really **** and this is at CW, at 168 I'd still be surprised if anyone could stop Johnson.

Cleverly was very smart not to take Ilunga for his first fight at CW.

Makabu ain't no joke. I expected Johnson to get stopped. Nathan Featherly was wise to dodge Makabu.

Maybe not, but others can see what he may not see. Hopefully, his wife will convince him to take a long, realistic look at where he is in his career. Health comes first.

This was wonderful news. What goes around, comes around. At least he wasn't laying unconscious with an opponent parading around the ring with his arms crossed like he did when Jones was out cold for over 5 minutes, showing no respect or concern for a dangerously motionless fighter like Jones was. It would have been poetic justice if Johnson was old cold while Makabu paraded around the ring. Very much enjoyed hearing that Johnson was stopped.

I'll never forget when Merqui Sosa showed the deepest compassion for Prince Charles Williams when he was knocked out. Merqui was in obvious pain over Williams condition.
