Is there an official championship ring size?

Often you hear of ringsizes making a possible difference in fights.

For example, in Algieri vs Ruslan fight the Ring was 19" I think they said on HBO. Then they also brought up Algieri in his regular NY venue fights in a ring that is 16-17" which is why he still seemed relatively comfortable in there.

Pacquiao also fought Margarito in 22" ring I believe, you can tell the ring was huge just watching the fight.

Is there a set championship ring size or is it all controlled by promoters/sanctioning bodies/money&greed?

So basically whoever is A-side will get ring size benefit, if possible. Although in an evenly matched fight it might not make a huge difference.

Aren't you a little curious as to how big the Canelo/Lara ring will be?

Depends what B-side agreed to, but yeah.

From memory, Ruslan had a small ring for Algieri, Froch a small-ish ring for Groves. Floyd of course requests big rings. Chavez had a small ring for Lee, Golovkin's ring in Monaco is small looking.

Small ring means better action usually (not always), nowhere to run.

No, but there should be an official ring size, and not just for championship fights but overall in boxing

All rings have to be 20x20 in Vegas.

Agreed, I would guess 20" would be great for everyone... maybe 22" if two giant HWs are fighting. We need set ring sizes for Championship fights, this should be discussed among the sanctioning bodies for all to agree on.

The only thing that would throw fighters off is that not all gyms will have the ring size to emulate a real prize fight. Some gyms are so rugged they don't even have a ring and just set up ring post/rope on the floor with a cushioned floor.

20x20 is the standard I believe ruslans last fight was 18 or less. A sides will always pick a ring to thwir favor a boxer mover might pick 22' while a punched might pick 18
