Comments Thread For: Crawford: I Warned Gamboa; He's a 126/130-Pounder

WBO lightweight champion Terence Crawford (24-0, 17KOs) warned Olympic gold medal winner Yuriorkis Gamboa (23-1, 16KOs) that he made a big mistake in accepting their fight. Before a crowd of nearly 11,000 fans at the CenturyLink Center in Omaha, Crawford dropped Gamboa four times before the fight was waved off.

Even before the fight took place, Crawford told media members that he felt the much shorter Gamboa was undersized and didn't have the firepower to compete with the best fighters, who were much bigger, at 135-pounds. He feels Gamboa should really be competing at 126 or 130-pounds.

Someone should have warned Crawford that this kind of comment is a good way of minimising your own win

It's the truth though. At least he's honest.

He could of been like Mayweather and been on some "Amir Khan is a strong young champion" type of BS.

Crawford not out to bull**** people it was obvious he was confident in his advantage not because he saying it, but if you watched the fight he was more than happy to trade, he knew he could take the punches better, but is not only that you cant just be bigger and beat Gamboa of that only. Crawford was really smart and self aware thats why he won. Factor #1 in that fight was Crawford outsmarting Gamboa then the rest.

Crawford is a honest dude. That statement doesn't even take the shine off his win. He deserves credit for his performance. Beating Gamboa at 126 is a great win, at 135 it's a good win.

thats how he was able to drop Gamboa in the first place, it was his strategy to open up and take the risk of walking through his punches

This may be true but it would only be minimizing his win to people that didn't know better . Most would agree Gamboa didn't really belong at 135 . I appreciate Crawfords honesty. What's not to like about this guy ? Acts like a true champion in and out of the ring .

It's true, but damn does Gamboa have a set on him to sit in and exchange with Crawford like that. Can't help but admire it, even if that attitude got him stopped.
