When facing a counter puncher with skill and accuracy.
What's going on Boxingscene posting faithful and trolls, how are you doing? Hope everything is fine and I hope everyone that responds to my thread watch the Crawford- Gamboa fight last night.
Two reasons:
1) We witness why protect yourself at all times is the most important rule in boxing, and
2) Everyone must understand now that when going going against an accurate counter puncher, it makes a pressure fighter or hard puncher weary of being active.
No one should say anything less of Gamboa's skills after his fight against Crawford, what should be noted is his heart. I seen many people saying fighters such as this person or that person hits harder, would had done better than Gamboa due to size and power. Fact is though I don't believe this is the case, many of these guys coming in the ring with power and size advantages, they will do much worse against counter punchers with skill.
Getting hit with accurate shots they will shell up and grow scared to throw, don't even try to win unless it's a way out like being dirty. Gamboa didn't resort to dirty tactics, he just committed to what he decided to do and that was to fight with the will to win. He didn't get frustrated or shell up which is kudos to his fighting spirit but downfall as well.
Basically what I am saying here is this, no one would had done better than Gamboa or had his moments in that fight against a skilled counter puncher. Especially if they would had kept the pressure or activity level that Gamboa displayed in that fight. So stop bringing up Rios, Matthyse, Maidana, and any of those guys because they will all lose worse and actually in my opinion KOed(not TKO) if they would had fought with all heart like Gamboa.
Anyway Crawford future P4P top 3, expect to see Errol Spence as well soon.
