Comments Thread For: Hearn: Burns Needs Tough Domestic Foe, Not in Scotland

Promoter Eddie Hearn is considering putting Ricky Burns into a high-profile domestic fight away from Scotland after attempts to get him back in the world-title mix backfired spectacularly. Burns was floored within 30 seconds of his comeback from losing his WBO lightweight belt before suffering a points loss to Montenegrin Dejan Zlaticanin in an official WBC eliminator.

Has Burns won a fight under Hearn? He certainly hasn't looked that good anyway. I guess the grass isn't always greener on the other side.

I keep saying, get these guys some international experience. All I hear is he can make more money at home. No he can't, and now the hometown advantage is turning into hometown pressure. It is too late for Burn, he may love fighting, but Crawford and Vazquez are beyond Burn's ability. There are hometown darlings, but sooner or later the lack of world travel will show, or he can go on beating "domestics" until his retires.
