    Is Gamboa a smart fighter?

I'd like to preface my statement by saying, I'm not making excuses. I picked Crawford to win. Gamboa is clearly an offensive dynamo. He sets up angles and has a great combination of speed and power. But damn it, he throws these combinations and is so wide open. He didn't keep his hands up. He's a (at least in this fight) a counter punch waiting to happen. I'm a big fan of Yuri, but I kept thinking to myself that there are times when he has no defensive responsibility.

    Nah.

He starts off fighting smart and always looks great. The problem is when he starts landing and gets too ****y, he stops landing and getting out of dodge, instead he stands there and throws flurries with his hands down.

If he was less reckless then good luck beating him, but he likes to rumble a little too much.

He's not even close to being a smart fighter.

Great talent but not nearly cerebral enough to be great.

Although not a smart move, Gamboa attempted at all costs to bash in Crawford's face and was winning early. Crawford was simply too big and skilled.
We have seen Yuri play it "smart" by winning comfortably vs Darleys Perez for example and get sidelined for an eternity. This loss opened doors for him.

entertaining as hell but doesnt rely on his skills and tries show off how big his balls are by standing and trading. im a fan of his and will continue to watch his fights regardless.

He's nowhere near has patient has he can afford to be. If he just took his time and was content with outboxing you like Mayweather, I couldn't pick against him in any fight from 126 to 130.... But he has too much pride ( like a Robert Guerrero) to just outbox you. He feels he has to answer every negative exchange and it draws him into getting countered
