Comments Thread For: Burns Confident of His Chances To Unseat Figueroa

Ricky Burns is convinced he can regain his world champion status as he prepares to make his first appearance since losing his WBO lightweight title.

The 31-year-old lost his belt to Terence Crawford in March after nine successful world title bouts but he goes into a WBC eliminator against unbeaten Montenegrin Dejan Zlaticanin in Glasgow on Friday with his mind set on taking on champion Omar Figueroa.

Dejan is a tough guy and burns looked pretty bad against Beltran who fights with a similar pressure style. But we all know how that turned out for Beltran, Dejan will probably have to knock him out to actually win the fight in Scotland.

I'm fond of Ricky, but he seems to have lost something.

I'm fond of Ricky too but he has lost a step and seems to be on his way to being shot. That toughness and grit is still there but he isn't the same fighter anymore.
