  • Comments Thread For: Lara's Manager on Their Relationship With Golden Boy

Luis DeCubas Jr., manager for WBA 'regular' junior middleweight champion Erislandy Lara (19-1-2, 12KOs), spoke with BoxingScene.com with respect to his boxer's contractual status with Golden Boy Promotions. Lara is also advised by the influential Al Haymon.

In an earlier article on BoxingScene, Lara made it clear that he wasn't under a promotional contract with Golden Boy and voiced his displeasure with the way he was treated by their company. There has been a lot of controversy lately regarding numerous fighters, who are advised by Haymon, being showcased on Golden Boy events but have no promotional contract with Golden Boy.

Decubas is wisely doing damage control here. Smart play.

And is Lara that ****** that he cant understand why a promoter (a for-profit business) would show more love to the guy who can sell out an entire arena than they show to the guy who cant sell out the first 2 rows?

To be honest; if he didn't have a promotional contract with GBP, he shouldn't expect anything from them.

I think he did at one point. Before he signed with Haymon.

Amazing how Haymon convinced Schaefer to release all these fighters from their GBP contracts. Some fishy stuff going on in boxing.

If Haymon worked with all promoters this would be good for boxing. Because promoters and networks would bid on fights instead of fighters being tied up in long term promotional contracts. If fighters just had managers to negotiate for them and the sanctioning bodies did the matchmaking we would see a lot of the fights we can't.

That's the way the sport should work. The problem is Haymon won't work with Top Rank.

As long as he's with Haymon he has no choice BUT to work with GBP. Who else is gonna work with Haymon? Not TR.

All this is absolutely irrelevant. Why you ask? Because, Lara doesn't bring anything to the table. He's just a decent, unknown boxer at this point.
