Comments Thread For: Photos: Robert Guerrero, Yoshihiro Kamegai Stage a War

CARSON, Calif. – Former four-division world champion Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (32-2-1, 18 KOs), of Gilroy, Calif., capped a spectacularly exciting night of ferocious non-stop action where each fight was better than the last with a Fight Of The Year candidate 12-round unanimous decision over Yoshihiro Kamegai (24-2-1, 21 KOs), of Sapporo, Japan, Saturday on SHOWTIME®.

Guerrero, making his first start in 13 months, won by the scores 117-111 twice and 116-112. There were no knockdowns but both warriors pounded on each other and were battered and bruised at the finish at which time they were given a standing ovation by the 5,711 in attendance.

Great fight! One hell of a "Phone Booth Battle". Props to both Guerrero & Kamegai.. Guerrero just won what most likely will be the fight of the year (I'm not saying there can not be one better, but I doubt there could be the another like this one or better this year) this tops Matthysse/Molina which was also great. Now that makes Me think how EASILY Mayweather beat Guerrero an just how smart and great fighter Mayweather is. Mayweather dominates almost to perfection what is the "Sweet Science of Boxing" which is to hit & not get hit or get hit as little as possible. That's why I believe that in the fights against Cotto and Maidana went the way went cause Mayweather himself allowed it to go that way by fighting their fight & still beating them. And if there is a rematch against both it will be a completely different fight from the first & Mayweather already made that clear. As was the case against Castillo in their second fight.

To me Guerrero looked less sharp against Mayweather... for whatever reason.

where were guerrero's legs? he fought the wrong fight, and i don't think it was by choice.

kudos to teh guy for another war, though. guerrero has a great chin, when you consider that he won titles at 130 and 126. big time power, too, considering that he was a freaking featherweight.

how the hell did that guy ever make 126. i literally don't get it. he looks like a completely different man.

Robert looked really sluggish from the onset, but this was one hell of a scrap for someone with that long of a lay off.

At Some Point U Have Too Many Wars; Guerrero Is Almost There

I love guy will stand they and fight, will trade, takes a helluva punch, but they take a toll at some point. As much as I'd love to see Guerrero and Thurman get it on, Thurman does need to beat up some other big name. I don't agree he needs to go up and fight Lara. What does that imply? Lara beats Canelo???? That ain't happening. Feed Amir Khan to Thurman. Amir thinks he did something special beating Collapso. Make that fight happen, and set up Shawn Porter with Guerrero, and let those two winners fight each other.

I was wondering what the hell I was thinking to stay up and watch this fight. Glad another crazy Japanese Terminator stepped in the ring.

i think guerrero proved that crossfit is an ATG training program.

he looked incredibly faster than he has ever looked before, his power and heart was extremely tremendous, and his stamina was just out of this world (i think he could have fought 30 rounds that night).

i think this version of guerrrero can come close to beating floyd like maidana did.

and i soon expect every top level fighter to join guerrero by adopting crossfit and promoting it to all their fans.

i'm already doing crossfit now because of guerrero. thank you guerrero.

I might be in the minority here, although I thought it was a fun fight, it was very sloppy and almost frustrating to watch so I don't get all this "FOTY!" talk I was reading last night.
