I don't know, I'd be more interested with the Tyson approach. "Tune in and see how quick and brutally Kovalev is going to knock this guy senseless."

That'd be better than caparillo pulling an upset

What can they do for Kovalev tho?

Basically with Haymon signing Dawson, Shumenov (or more to the point his belt) and Stevenson, with Hopkins being a GBP partner (- but apparently closer to the Schaeffer / Haymon partnership than to ODLH), Kovalev is essentially screwed for LHW matchups.

There's Chilemba maybe (though I don't think Duva will cash out one of her top fighters against another unless truly desperate), Braehmer - if he can finally be convinced to fight another titlist, or Pascal (who would be perfect, but seems to be less than enthusiastic and can get plenty of decent paydays in Montreal without taking the kind of risk Kovalev represents).

If Thomas Williams Jr goes through Campillo he becomes the kinda level that Agnew was at. If Fonfara is willing that'd obviously be a top pick for Kovalev, but I've a feeling Andrej is looking for an easier fight first.

Cloud would of course be a good choice - name recognition alone would make this a good fight for Kovalevs reputation, no matter how badly Cloud has been shown up in his last three fights. But Cloud seems to have evaporated.

Remarkable as it may seem, guys like Caparello and Agnew are actually the best fights that can be made for Kovalev - it's pitiful, but there is, quite literally, no-one else.

I'd recommend a move up in division if was anything other than CW above him, but Sergei's one of the smaller LHWs, only rehydrating to 183/4. (contrast Stevenson who fights 188-90 or Dawson who fought as high as 193). Furthermore Kovalev has explicitly said he can't go down to 168

Basically the immediate future really sucks for Kovalev - the only thing that Kovalev has in his favour is that he's by far the youngest of the current titlists (though hardly young at 31 himself).

Nothing... if he does this it's B.S. If he sits out, it's B.S and it hurts him.

Best they can do is build him and keep him active. Next opponent should be better though. Fonfara or Chilemba... even E-Rod would be intriguing, but him and Haymon might demand too much money.

maybe Thomas Jr. if he beats Campillo in an impressive fashion

He should fight Braehmer. HBO would probably approve money for that fight and it would sell well in Germany so there is money from there as well.

If Chad Dawson can get back to 80-85% of his prime, I would like to see that fight. I guess he's with Haymon now though isn't he? SMH

Yeah ^. Braehmer is actually about the best option for Kovalev that actually has a reasonable chance of being made.

I'd like to see Kovalev vs Dawsin as suggested by PBP above but I just don't see it with the Duva vs Haymon ish continuig
