Why do some world class boxers have such short arms?

Even the boxer types... B hop only 23 inches armpit to end of fist? Jones 24? Calzaghe 24? I thought these guys would haw extremely long arms but Mayweather has longer arms at 26 inches and at 5"7.

23-24 to the fist isn't short. Average really. It's just that a lot of boxers have abnormally large wingspans so the guys with normal ones seem short in comparison.

None of those fighters you listed have short arms at all...just average..Now Hatton had some short arms

At 5'10 I have 26".. B Hop is a much larger and taller man than me and his arms are 3 inches shorter and he's a world class pro boxer... I always thought arm length would be a big advantage to top notch boxers.

What's your total reach/wingspan fingertip to fingertip? Pit to fist doesn't tell the whole story I don't think because of variations in shoulder broadness. Either way if your total wingspan is within a couple inches of your height it's considered normal.

It's definitely a gift for certain styles if your reach is disproportionately long compared to the rest of your body. Floyd's wingspan is if I recall 72" inches (1 inch longer than Mike Tyson's who was average) and Paul Williams was 82" (One inch longer than Wladimir Klitschko, also average relative to height).
