I don't question Ariza's talent as a strength and conditioning coach. I just think he rubs people the wrong way and Robert Garcia doesn't take **** from nobody.
Ariz seems to be a very unlikable guy.Comment

People don't seem to get this. He is an S&C coach but started acting like his is also a trainer.
Ariza overstepped his boundries and got canned for it.Comment

Alex Ariza has a College Degree, is smart, and well spoken. As a result, he will make many Boxing Trainers - who are pretty ignorant - feel bad because they know they are not as smart as Ariza and never will be. Even though Alex produces results, Boxing Trainers would rather fire him than stay with him and be reminded of their ignorance on a daily basis.
If trainers think they can copy Ariza's results after having been around him for awhile, then I say "Good Luck....Chump". What Alex does can not be simply repeated and applied to another fighter, or even be repeated for the same fighter for another fight. Ariza is constantly analyzing a fighter's vitamin, mineral and nutrient levels and adjusting supplements and diets accordingly. Likewise, he also varies training accordingly.
Last...every fighter worth his salt takes steroids at one time or another. the trick is to repair and build muscle with steroids between training camps out of sight of USADA, and then taper off before training camp - and these gains will carry over to the fight. Also, not all steroids are the same. You got to know which ones to use and how. A good trainer knows how to do this without getting the fighter burned.
Also, any fighter who shows up to a fight with steroids in his system is a fool or has a fool for a trainer. While steroids can increase muscle mass and help repair the body, they also make the tissues retain water and slow a fighter down. THAT is why you want a fighter cleaan of steroids before a fight even if they were legal to use. And THAT is why Manny's requested 2-week cutoff date for blood testing before a fight was kind of crazy, but would not have resulted in masking steroid use, for a good trainer would have already tapered him off long beforehand.
Maidana is going to miss Ariza.Comment
