A Rod's story is fairly complicated. He tested positive for steroids in the early 2000s. He and a bunch of other players were supposed to remain anonymous, but their names were leaked. Afterwards, Rodriguez himself admitted to using PEDs during that period and excused himself as being "young and ******." All fine and dandy, since there was no system in place at the time. But after intense congressional heat and MLB's ensuing crusade against steroids, A Rod's goose was cooked when his name again appeared in connection with PEDs. The guy was as high-profile as they came, and the powers-that-be weren't going to let him skate a second time.
Boxing has nowhere near the resources, nor the inclination, of MLB. They're not investigating Gamboa, or any other fighter, beyond their usual testing protocol. Sure Yuri's su****ious, but so are a lot of other guys. It's going to be some time before this sport gets its act together.
