This past Saturday night, Chris Algieri (20-0, 8KOs) secured the biggest win of his career. Algieri got up from two knockdowns in the first round, and overcame a closed right eye, to win a twelve round split decision over heavily favored Ruslan "Siberian Rocky" Provodnikov to capture the WBO junior welterweight championship in an HBO televised main event from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

I called it, but man i think it ahould have been a draw - the HBO crew where so biased for Algiere it like they willed him to victory, the unoffical judge had it a white wash for Provo - now all ofthese Algiere fans thinking he is the next nest boxer since Ali, and its funny how hia style is entertaining and Rigo is boring?? I knwe from Provo's past that he ia not all that effective against movers and dumb arse Mike Alverado could have done the same thing but was not disciplined inside nor outside the ring ... Algiere is a handful because he ia supremely conditioned and he can box his arse off, now that the cat ia out the bag lets see how he fares..

Biased for Algieri?!? The only HBO guy who thought Algieri won was Ward. I thought the fight was close either way, so I saw the HBO crew as biased towards Provo. No way was the fight as wide as that first judge's card.

Algieri got hit so hard by that first punch that he didn't feel the rest of them.

provodnikov got to caught up in trying to land that one punch the big left hook and he did land it but just not enough to win rounds. he simply got out worked and was taking some good shots that snapped his head back several times

Obviously they were biased towards Prov at the beginning. That bias was probably validated a bit when Algieri got hit so hard that he left his feet. They did start changing their tone towards the end, and even Steve Weisfeld said the scoring would come down to how different judges see the fight.

Max said he'd have to go back and watch the fight and Ward thought Algieri was winning all the way.

I think people give the HBO crew a hard time. They're trying to sell these guys, so they have to act like there's something at stake and attempt to create drama by building up one guy.

I dont know why he didnt put more punches together. If you watch the Alvarado fight, Ruslan went to work when he had Alvarado cornered. In this fight, he just tried to load up with one shot.

I honestly think the little guy shoulda been in his corner instead of Roach. I noticed in this fight and in the Bradley fight that Roach's instructions to Ruslan were just whatever... Roach is like, "OK.. Umm.. Knock him out I guess"

In the Alvrado fight, Marvin was giving excellent coaching every road and Ruslan was executing the game plan.

And I thought that Marvin is just a small time Filipino trainer while Roach is a HOF trainer! He guided Pac to numerous victories, and Cotto against Martinez, oh well... Marvin may not be a HOF trainer but he uses and applying a lot of common sense as the fight goes on

I don't know why fans find fighters getting their face beat in as an entertaining style. The fight was entertaining, but I would say his defense is flawed rather his style is entertaining. Also Provodnikov always finds a way to make the fight entertaining. He did it to Herrera, Bradley, Alvarado and now Algieri. It's a Provodnikov style thing to force a brawl, I don't think Algieri wanted this. From the pre fight interviews it seemed like his intentions was to box not get his face destroyed.
