It's hard to gauge how good Russell is because of his level of opposition. His last four opponents:
Miguel Tamayo. 15-7, had never beaten an opponent with a winning record.
Juan Ruiz. 23-11. Had lost six in a row.
Vyacheslav Gusev. 20-2. Had been easily beaten by the only world class fighter he'd ever faced. No notable wins.
Roberto Castanada. 20-2. Was coming off a knockout loss. Would go on to lose his next three fights.
With Lomachenko, you've got a tremendously talented boxer who doesn't know how to pace himself. Gary Russell Jr. can fight at a fast pace. So I don't know that Lomachenko's low output will be enough for him. I think Lomachenko is the more talented, but Russell Jr. is probably better at pacing himself. Tough fight to call.Comment

russel jr. has the label of pure boxer which means anything he does=he is winning. throw lots of volume but get hit with big shots=boxing clinic! pick and choose your shots while getting outworked=schooling alert! just don't get knocked out and you win!Comment

We have never seen Russell challenged so I have never seen him in that position. Has he ever had a close fight or had to pull one out? He may have fought a number of TBA's but he is lightning fast, hits quite hard, and seems to be the complete package. Lomo to me is almost the complete package but that is saying a lot because of how he took on Salido so early. So you have Russell's dominance and Lomo's baptism by fire where he came on late against Salido. I have to lean towards Russell in this one.Comment

Russell can mix it up in close and he has a lethal right hook that he throws with mean intentions. I like him to win, just all around superior from what I see.Comment
