That fight does zip for Floyds legacy.
It still does more than any one else. Just face it, Floyd May-never don't want it.

Cotto will always stylistically be the tougher, more physical, grueling fight for Floyd over Pacquiao. Pac would enter a boxing contest with Floyd like he did with Marquez in all 3 fights prior to the 4th one(First fight Manny came out blazing but then Marquez adjusted and forced Pac into a boxing match), and like he did in both fights with Bradley. It is clear to me that the older Pacquiao got, the more he likes "boxing" rather than just throwing 1,000 punches a fight and brawling. He even outboxed Rios instead of just going all out and TKO'ing him like he did to Diaz and DLH.

Cotto will always bully and push Floyd around, while that is nowhere near Pacquiao's style. Pac instead stares at the ref for help when even one of his arms are grabbed. Pac prefers to box, and because of this, I don't see how he has a better shot at beating Mayweather than Lara or Cotto have at their respective weight classes.

          How?

Cotto for the MW title does wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy more for his legacy.

Beating Pacquiao in 2014 does as much for Floyds resume as Maidana did.

I say just have a 50/50 purse. Forget all the fancy drug tests, we all know that they're both on something. I say let them have a dope free for all. But, I can already see the "negotiation" between the both of them:

I honestly never had a problem with Manny turning Cotto down at JMW, but him trying to get Cotto down to 149 left me with a bad taste in my mouth.

Well Pacquaio has been recognized by the whole industry as the greatest fight for Floyd for at least 4 years now. His resume is the best or second best in boxing, depends on who's side you like. Pacquiao just manhandled a p4p top 5 with ease, for the second time. That win could arguably be just as good as the Cotto win for Floyd, which is Floyd's greatest win in 7 years. Pacquaio beat him too.

A Pacquiao win on Floyds resume would dwarf a Cotto win at middleweight, in my eyes at least. It can still be made, and it's still the biggest fight in boxing and that is why it is a better fight for his resume. Floyd just beat Cotto, anyways, 2-3 pounds difference, we got the same fight.

Everyone would remember Floyd for being a great fighter, one of the finest, but he will always stand in the shadow of doubt because he did not put himself up to the biggest task, taking on the real beast from the east. He can still get himself out of this state, but people will never forget this one fight that never happened. If it happens and Floyd wins, I think it will erase this one spot where Floyd's resume ain't perfect. Because as long as Pacquaio keeps stacking wins and Floyd keeps dodging, it's gonna hurt him in the long run.

I'd give Floyd all the credit in the world if he could beat Pacquaio.
