  • Comments Thread For: Roach Says Pacquiao is No Provodnikov, Credits NYSAC

Trainer Freddie Roach saw no reason for the New York State Athletic Commission to stop Saturday's fight between Ruslan Provodnikov and Chris Algieri. Algieri was dropped twice in the first round. The punch which caused first knockdown injured Algieri's right eye and it swelled completely shut by the later rounds.

Some wondered if the NYSAC should have stopped the fight to protect Algieri's eye. Roach is not one of those critics. The fight was allowed to continue and Algieri boxed his way to a twelve round split decision and captured the WBO junior welterweight title.

no way that fight should happen. zero demand for it. plus arum will put it on PPV for $70 with a crappy undercard. This has "horrible event" written all over it. Have Chris rematch Provo on a pac undercard.... there.

They need a new face in front of PAC so this is definitely going to happen. It's a shame he's moving up in weight to fight but he must be getting paid something well. I just wish him and Garcia could had unified since he isn't a top rank fighter.

true. i'd rather see pac vs algieri than another pac vs marquez.

but algieri should get a couple of more good wins before fighting pacquiao because right now it's really not a significant fight.

I have no idea why Pac-Algieri is even being mentioned. You'd think with Arum and Oscar hooking up recently they'd be talking about getting Pacquiao much more interesting fights. I'm sure the fight won't happen but won't be shocked if it was made. If such thing were to happen Oscar and Arum's business becomes completely pointless and misleading.

Everything about Arum is misleading! He calls Mayweather vs. Maidana a totally lopsided fight but then talks up a Pacquiao vs. Algeri fight. He says Broner isn't worthy of a Pacquiao fight but Algeri was deemed worthy before he even beat Provodnikov? Arum sucks, and Oscar will most likely regret what he's done with GBP.
