  • Comments Thread For: Ruslan Provodnikov: This is The Worst Style For Me!

Ruslan Provodnikov lost his WBO junior welterweight title to Chris Algieri in Brooklyn, New York, on Saturday night on a split decision. Two judges scored the bout 114-112 for Algieri and the third had it 117-109 for Provodnikov. Algieri was knocked down twice in the opening round and finished the bout with a badly swollen right eye, but scored well all along.

For one judge to make Provodnikov an eight-point winner and the other two giving it by two points to the challenger should be a matter of discussion in the aftermath to the fight. Provodnikov, trained by the highly regarded Freddie Roach, landed the harder punches but probably not enough of them to remove all doubt. The Russian’s professional record fell to 23-3, including 16 wins inside the distance. Algieri remained undefeated after 20 bouts, with 8 knockout victories.

It's certainly one of the worst styles to watch too.

First Herrera and now Algieri. I hope Provodnikov has learned his lesson and only fights guys like Rios. The guy is 30 years old and can't last much longer in the sport and division with that kind of style. He should choose his opponents wisely from here on out and hopefully be out of the sport in a few years after making his mark and money.

Saying "I can't fight this style" is just him saying "I can't fight a real Boxer". What does he expect? Every fighter to just stand in front of him and let him land shots? That's the kind of Diaz mentality that loses you fights.

That fight kind of solved the "unclassifiable style" riddle of Timothy Bradley. Timothy also outboxed Provodnikov, but he could never get out of the pocket and was hit with mallets to the side of the head all night. Bradley's style is "excellent boxer with terrible feet".

That's what separates the true greats with the rest of them: That they can overcome adversity.
