Exactly. But what's the use in telling your boxer to knock him out when you know he can't do it? Idiot. If he can, he would have done it much earlier with an almost one eyed opponent. And one thing more, you don't need some world class trainer to say you need to KO your opponent if you think the fight is close. Just common sense. Idiot.

Got to say this was terrible match-making by Providnikov's management.

Not really because if that's the case, boxers that are not hard punchers will almost always loss against hard punchers. It's how cleaner your punches that count the most. There is no such thing as a pitty-patty punching unless these are jabs used as range finders or to establish your distance

I thought Ruslan won but I am not upset at the decision. Ruslan allows his opponents to stay in the fight, especially boxers who move and work off the jab. He starts off great but then he slows his pace in the middle rounds. He doesn't even cut off the ring very well.

Another idiotic ****. If in your opinion, Roach is a HOF trainer, so be it. But that's only your opinion. And why can't others have their own opinion? Or perhaps you think you are a genius that your opinion is "more correct" than contrary opinions? And calling yourself boxing god, Arrogant idiot!

Any fighter who says 'I can only win a fight if my opponent stands still and slugs it out with me' is a limited, one-dimensional fighter and will never be able to defeat a high quality opponent.

Arum will make Pacquaio/Provodnikov either later this year or sometime next year because there is no one else in his stable for Pac to fight. If anyone on this board is ****** enough to think the cold war is really over and that Arum will match Pac with anyone in the GBP stable, then I have a bridge that I want to sell you.

Can you show me where it says that in the rulebook?

$0.01 - Algieri deserved the win. He showed heart and determination while boxing well. He will be a hard one to beat for most in that division. I can only see him losing to a couple guys in fights that would likely be close.

$0.02 - Is Provodnikov is not hyped. He is what we thought he was despite this loss. He is a come forward warrior who just want's to fight but is not the most skilled. As we already knew. No big surprise that he lost a decesion to a boxer who moves a lot. I'm still willing to watch him fight though, he will be in exciting fights with 80% of the people he steps in the ring with so I'm still amped up about him.

$0.03 - This fight is a perfect example of why you should never let commentators or ringside unofficial judges scorecards effect how you perceive a fight. Iv'e been watching this sport too long for that sht. I was sitting and awaiting hearing that exact decision after the fight and was shaking my head at the unofficial judges scorecard. Knockdowns and swollen eyes don't dictate who wins a boxing match. This isn't a street fight for a girl, it's a sport and there are rules and guidelines. One of those rules are that a fight is scored round by round. The judges did a great job tonight of making the "right" decision despite what casual onlookers may feel. More decisions like this can restore our faith in the judging system as I feel too many times the bigger name gets a win based on his promoter and fighters records are tainted because of that coughdannycoughgarciacough

You made some good points, especially the third one. The HBO team is always biased towards the fighter who is trying to knock his opponent into the middle of next week, whether he is successful or not. That is why Pacquaio and Provodnikov are so popular with the HBO brass, while Rigondeaux and others are not. The only reason this fight was purchased by HBO is because the HBO brass thought they would showcase Provodnikov win by spectacular knockout and it would set up a Pacquaio/Provodnikov fight in the fall. Unfortunately, this will likely be the last time you see Algieri on HBO because of the Rigondeaux rule -- he is not exciting enough for HBO -- while t HBO will likely show Pacquaio/Provodnikov in November if Marquez turns down a fifth fight with Pacquaio.
