I'm not sure I understand the criticism. If it's anywhere between 154-160, which is what Freddie is indicating, Canelo won't be drained. Unlike Floyd, Cotto would be fighting a live Canelo. Who cares about the belts. If you're a big name in boxing, belts are meaningless. Unfortunately, that's how the sport works nowadays.

Regardless of whether Cotto fights Canelo at 154 or higher...he gets credit for actually fighting a non-weight drained Canelo unlike Floyd who fought a corpse at 152

Easy to see why considering Canelo is having trouble making weight at 154. Team Cotto will request a catch weight for the fight to the lowest possible. Would not surprise me if they ask for 154.1, no more no less.
