How often should you spar? I feel like going to the gym and going through the motions gets a little tedious and people say sparring is the best way to get better but how often should you do it ? 3 times a week or waaa? Post and discuss please
Sparring

When I competed I would try and sparr as much as possible.. You don't want to over do it, because you will **** up your body, but twice a week, 10-12 rounds each time should sharpen your skills...
At my gym we would always spar on Saturdays, recover, rest, light workout Sunday, Monday Tuesday Wednesday, would be drills and technique, I usually spar Thursday nights, and then Friday might be alittle more light sparring and some drills -

I think more than 3 times a week is too much, my trainer says that trainers that make their fighters spar everyday are just lazy to work with them on the floor. There really is no point of sparring more than 4 rounds a day if you're fighting in the amatures cause you only fight for 3 rounds.Comment

Yah but usually there's sparring every other day and obviously not everyone participates every single time but sparring is just too fun I guess I just love the competitiveness in getting the best of your bud in a battle lolI think more than 3 times a week is too much, my trainer says that trainers that make their fighters spar everyday are just lazy to work with them on the floor. 4 rounds really doesn't give you much chance to work on things, and if you spar more rounds your endurance is much better, as in a fight the speed of the game is much faster and intense than it is in sparring. You can easily gas out if you aren't conditioned to go long..I think more than 3 times a week is too much, my trainer says that trainers that make their fighters spar everyday are just lazy to work with them on the floor. We usually would match up with guys in sparring, and spar 2 rounds, and then switch partners so in effect you would spar 10-12 rounds with 5 or 6 different fighters in all shapes and sizes. It gives you good diversity.
Plus sparring is used to enhance skills and you showed really try and practice certain aspects for a single round.. For example, I used to want to work on my jab, so I would take a round or 2 and really focus in throwing jabs, double n triple.. Sometimes it might be infighting or pressuring, or counter punching, but I would always take the first 3 or 4 rounds and really try to work on a skill, and then the rest of the time, go all out in sparring..
4 rounds just isn't enough time to really build endurance and sharpen skills. Maybe if your sparring 2 or 3 times a week, having one session that's only 4 rounds is ok, but ideally you want to log a lot of sparring rounds, as it's great experience for dealing with ranges and footwork, etc
I'm a firm believer in the tougher you push yourself in the gym the easier your fight becomesComment
