As I recall the only person who looked like they were ready to go in that fight was Cotto. Landing a jab and making a guys nose bleed is a far cry from a KO

99% of the people on these board didn't feel that way prior to the Martinez fight. Most felt Cotto didn't have a chance. Don't pretend you're smart in hindsight.



I doubt he'd knock Floyd out, as Floyd is more resilient than people assume. He has a good chin and a quick recovery. But delusional is a harsh word. Cotto messed up Floyd's face in their last meeting, and that was when people figured Cotto for a washed up has-been. This version of Cotto probably gives Floyd "I stand in front of my opponent for the fans" Mayweather even more trouble.

Trout is irrelevant in this discussion. Styles make fights. Trout did more to Cotto than Mayweather did.

I really think Floyd needs to fight a Roach trained fighter. The last one was Oscar back in 2007. Oscar would've won if he didn't run out of gas and Freddie only trained him for that one fight.

7 years and Floyd has yet to face a Freddie Roach gameplan. Why is this??

Maybe the reason is MP, or rather Bob Arum, rejected the 3 offers FM made to MP. Or maybe, despite FM having an open fight date on one of the 2 biggest fight days of year, Cotto, or rather Bob Arum (there's that name again), said his next fight won't be till December. And don't say Cotto couldn't fight in Sept. He took no punishment in the Martinez fight. He would have a month to rest and still have time for an 8 week training camp.

I was one of the main guys on here who thought Sergio Martinez would annihilate Miguel Cotto I have to admit. I didn't believe that Sergio was that far off his game that he could lose to a smaller Cotto. Event though I knew Martinez had surgery on his knee and multiple injuries I still went with him so I have to give Cotto his credit for beating Martinez BUT lets not forget that Roach said Martinez was shot to s#!t and left everything in the ring against Chavez Jr prior going into the fight with Cotto. Even Cotto admitted that if Martinez wasn't 100% then he would lose. We can't act like Martinez was Martinez of old if Roach and Cotto knew he wasn't. I could not imagine Martinez who fought Sergei Dzindziruk and Chavez Jr would have taken an L like that against Cotto.

With that said, I give Cotto his props for proving me wrong but to say he would KO Mayweather because of this win over a guy Roach and himself clearly stated as not himself is ridiculous. Sure in boxing anything can happen but the first fight as entertaining as it was, only had Cotto winning 3 maybe 4 rounds tops. The rest was Floyd and Floyd almost dropped Cotto in the 12th round from an upper cut. How much better can Cotto do in a rematch? Making Cotto more offensive just oppens him up for more counters from Mayweather who is fiercely accurate. People see Floyd get bloodied and roughed up and lose their minds, totally disregarding that Mayweather won the fight(s).

Even Roach admitted that Maidana only won 4 rounds from Mayweather. I'd much rather see Cotto fight Canelo/Lara depending who wins or even the loser(s). Cotto is the MW champ now so he should at at least defend one time at the weight, if not then Sergio Martinez was a ripe pick. I'd much rather see how Cotto will do against someone like Cotto or Lara before I crown him a new fighter.
