Comments Thread For: Donaire, Nietes Double Could Be in Play For The Fall

IN the face of MP Promotions’ Michael Koncz, the Canadian adviser of Manny Pacquiao’s scuttling of a proposal by Top Rank promoter Bob Arum for Nonito Donaire to fight on the Fighter of the Decade’s Nov. 22 card in Macau, plans are moving ahead to try and promote a double championship card featuring the Filipino Flash and WBO light flyweight champion Donnie Nietes in the US.

Donaire told Viva Sports/Manila Standard, in an exclusive interview, that “when we signed with Top Rank at the beginning, they promised us an undercard fight with Pacquiao.”

Nietes is talented, no doubt... but he's kind of hit and miss. The skill is there.... but sometimes people won't find his fights the most exciting. That Fuentes rematch was awesome... picked his shots really well and didn't fall into the lull of the first fight.

Also, this is an amazing step forward for the lower weight classes... this is a 108 pound fight on an HBO card.... big step forward. I wish he'd step up to Flyweight so that weight class can be highlighted... but oh well.

Good post, excited about this one. It was a bittersweet moment for me when Ahas got the Ring belt and stopped Fuentes a few weeks ago. However, i am a huge fan. This guy is talented and he has good mobility plus a good boxer. I think he is planning on defending 1 or 2 more times before jumping up to 112. He already stated that once he goes up he wanted to fight Segura, Estrada and Gonzalez at FlyWeight. The reason why he wants to wait a few months before moving up is because by the end of this year, if Nietes remains champion, he will be the longest reigning champion to hold and defend his belts in the history of the sport in the islands.

Arum for years didn't want Donaire on Pac's undercards. Why are they now trying to act like Koncz is to blame?

Yea, excited for his move to FW... that division is getting packed. I'd say unification, but it's not possible. Inoue is vacating and moving up after his next defense, Ioka moved up and Casimero had to vacate and might move up.

I don't know who he's up against next, but if he's on the card this is a good step forward for the lower weightclasses. So far, they've only been highlighted on the Macau cards

Yeah Ioka just recently lost vs Amnat Ruenroeng . Good news on Inoue, that dude looks like a freaking monster man. (Side Note: Japan is the breeding grounds for elite fighters at 130 lbs and below) Yeah, Casimero weighted in at 112 or 113, can't remember… in his last fight and was stripped. He ended up getting an early knock out and said he was moving up anyway and was ready for the top dogs at 112. The Filipinos are strengthening the division and it's adding even more flare to the fire. I was let down by Reveco and i think he lost his last fight vs Alvarado. Felix style is freaking awesome, dude is a machine in the ring. Damn ref saved the champ and deducted points for some of the clearest body shots i've seen…

Anyway I'm glad that Macau has shined some light on my favourite division. It's a refreshing and deep/competitive weight class filled with world class talent in every aspect. The reason though is Zou Shiming. They need to sell that weight class to the Chinese fan base in order for them to appreciate their boxing representative if ever he achieves a championship. Regardless i hope they become a staple in undercards at least, if not its back to scavenging channels and the net for streams lol.

              huh? It was always Koncz

Donaire did admit however, that he was kicked out from the Pacquiao undercard by Pacquiao's advisor Michael Koncz. Donaire had always wanted to fight in the undercard of Pacquiao, whom is doesn't only consider as a friend, but his idol as well. 'That's what it is really. Michael Koncz is a c0*kblock, but it's okay. I have a big fight now against Montiel," Donaire concluded.
