Pacman's Manila Fight In May Off; September Rubber Match At 130

HBO's Larry Merchant mentioned last night in Vargas-Mosley fight that due to security concern, Pacquiao-Larios fight in May will be staged in the USA instead of Manila as originally planned. Philippine president Arroyo declared a state of emergency to clamp down on coup plotters from the left-wing military, communists and opposition that have working to bring her government down.

Also on Manny, but this time on his scheduled rubber match with "El Terrible" in September, Shaw just confirmed that Team Pacquiao has not and will not agree to 132 lbs. If Pacman fights Morales in September it will be at 130 lbs.

I think the Larios fight is a big loss to Filipino fight fans to see their hero slug it out with a credible fighter right before their very eyes. It also deprives Pacman of an opportunity to co-promote a big fight with HBO and earn more money.

I hope the situation in Manila will stablize soon and Arroyo will recall her state of emergency declaration in due time.

That really sucks. I have visited the Phillippines twice and it's neighboring countries such as Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, and Burma.

Prior to me visiting any of the Southeast Asian countries I just mentioned I always thought of the Phillippines and Thailand as the leading nations as far as development in that region.

Well my eyes told me differently. Thailand and surprisingly Vietnam I would say are the ones leading the way.

The thing about the Philippines though is that they have a real potential to be at the top. I've always wondered why the Phillippines lack in promoting tourism. I had a very easy time getting around Thailand and Vietnam, but the Phillippines it seemed you had to "jump through more hoops"I just don't understand it. Anyway a PAC - Larios match-up could've boosted the local economy big-time!

I use to pick-up and read those Travel Magazines and from time to time they would come out with their rankings on the best tropical beaches and resorts to visit and Boracay and some other places in the Phillippines would consistently be ranked in their TOP 5, but I've visited Boracay and Palawan it's by far the prettiest beach I have ever seen better than the ones in Mexico, but yet i would say it lacked tourists compared to the other similar countries I've visited. As a traveler this was definitely a good thing, but the Phillippines just have to do a better job of advertising itself and must do alot more in promoting tourism!

This is a blessing in disguise. Pac would've lost if he fought a fighter like Oscar Larios in Manila. There's just too many leeches, politicians and distractions in the Philippines.

This is definitely good news for Pac fans! I gave Larios 40% chance of outboxing Pac in Manila. Now, I give him 10% chance of outboxing Pac in Vegas.

You may have a point there, I think my dad just mentioned something about that. Definitely something I'd do a quick search on.

Is HBO the promoter for the MP-Larios fight?

If Manny insist fighting in Philippines, the fight will be held there. By the time May rolls in, this so called coup attemp will be forgotten because it will be replace by a political scandal.

There are rich and elite filipinos who wants to have a boxing event, that involves MP, in Philippines. Its profits for them and it will look good in their resume if they decided to enter politics.
