Martinez was the first fighter that I followed in boxing, so I was saddened to watch him for potentially the last time yesterday. Great boxer who earned it the hard way and made it up to the top at a very late age for an athlete. I hope he retires for his own sake.
Also the only boxer I have heard say "no excuses" and then not proceed to cite 100 excuses lol.Comment

Followed him since the Bunema fight. That style, damn.
Was pretty depressed after the Cotto fight. Probably the last time we'll see him in the ring. That conversation between him and Sarmiento before the end was chilling.
That being said, he had a tremendous career and was a model champion. Was never in a boring fight and earned everything the hard way. He'll always be a personal hero. Represented us latinos very well.
Thanks for the memories grand champion. Your greatness will never be forgotten.Comment

For a guy that started boxing late Sergio reached a level in the sport most boxers dream about.

Was a very good champion... Big heart.... Exciting style.
I'm mad he pulled this on his fans though knowing he very well wasn't no 100%... But I guess every man has to hustle.
War Maravilla! I prefer to remember you as you were when you were dominating the division.Comment
