Freddie Roach locked for Trainer of the Year?

Do you guys think Freddie is already a lock for TOTY? He trained Pacquiao to avenge his loss against Bradley, a top 5 P4P fighter at the time, to recapture the WBO Welterweight title, and a couple of months later, trains Cotto to dominate Martinez for the lineal Middleweight Title. Thoughts?

I wouldn't say lock just yet but assuming Ruslan retains his title in a week, he is going to already have a mighty strong case a little over half way through the year. Personally I think he made a much bigger statement in this fight than just being trainer of the year. I mean this guy took a fighter that looked shot about year ago and just made him the middleweight champion of the world, annihilating a top p4p fighter in the process. I know people sometimes hate on Roach but is there really any doubt that he is one of the top if not the top trainer in the world right now?

Roach didnt change cotto at ALL. It's the same boxing style cotto of 154. Hes not the same, he is just less shot than martinez and actually has 2 good legs.

His two wins against Rodriguez and Martinez are about the same level of worthlessness.

That was the point. Roach never intended on CHANGING Cotto, he wanted to bring him back to using his strengths like he did at 140 and part of 147.

He seems to be a lock regardless whether he has a good year or not.

I mean he didnt bring back the good cotto. He's fighting the same style has been at 154 against Trout and Mayweather and Yuri Foreman. The Cotto of 140 and 147 is gone forever...it got beat out by Margarito and Pac.

yeah he's top the list atm. He didn't deserve it last year though. He actually didn't have much of a good year last year

They should just give him the trophy now. Pacquiao, Cotto, Postol all in dominating fashion

And hes still got upcoming fights with Prov and Zou

I agree, I also didn't think he deserved it last year. But so far this year, It'll be hard for any trainer to top what Freddie's done this year. And assuming he leads Provodnikov, Pacquiao, and possibly Cotto to another decent victory, I think he's got it.
