    • so many nuances to this fight that no one is talking about. Martinez who likes to move right had to stay away from Cotto's left hook, so Martinez was forced to move left forcing Martinez to constantly be out of position. Cotto's body angle and position for the entire fight was just outside Martinez's lead shoulder, as a result Cotto could land all his shots while Martinez could only land a jab. If Martinez tried to throw a straight left he would have to square up and be completely open to power shots. Every time Martinez began to establish rhythm, Cotto would nail him with a left and a body shot constantly braking Martinez's rhythm, and scoring. when the two would trade in close quarters Cotto would actually make himself smaller and shorten his punches, which forced Martinez to lean forward making Cotto's punches more effective.

Another factor to this fight was what everyone thought would be the reason Martinez would destroy Cotto, is the fact that Martinez has fought nothing but bigger taller men. Martinez had alot of strength and power punching up, his awkward style lent to that, however fighting a shorter fighter and punching down took a significant amount of strength and power away from his punches.

All this has nothing to do with Martinez's knee.

As for Pavlik I actually believe he was the best fighter that Sergio had fought. And unfortunately Pavlik was dealing with all kinds of personal demons and yet he was still able to make a fight of it until he got cut. And believe it or not I also consider myself a fan of Sergio's. But, me being a fan doesn't change the fact that he is still highly overrated.
Lmaol really?? An undefeated cintron could of put cotto to sleep with that right hand. Undefeated williams could of tko cotto or outbox him ala trout style. Pavoik would of murder cotto during that time. You give no credit to martinez for going up in weight and beating the **** out of Pavlik.

On to cotto who did he beat? A washed up judah who he was tattoeing his face and had to resort to lowblowing like 3 times?? HOmetown decision vs old mosley and clottey. Took a knee vs margarito. Before you say he had plaster. Plaster or not where were his skills to avoid the shots and where was his power to have kod margarito. I mean williams did it to margarito you never heard williams come out and say his punches were hard and weird. Now he got beat the **** by paquiao and beat by pbf. So tell me what greats did he beat?

On to today it was a good performance by him I honestly taught martinez was going to tko cotto but like I said before unless martinez has leg injury he will have a chance and qs soon as the first round we all saw martinez legs were really weak.

Today cotto proved he still has something in him and looked good, but then again it was against a washed up sergio I would like to see him do that to canelo vs lara winner or hell any solid 154 pounder or 160 where he is the champion now th3n we could actually say damn cotto is really that good. Tonight what got proven was that sergio was shot and his knees never really recovered from surgery. Now thats the truth like what you said on your post

        • I was so wrong about this fight. I really thought Sergio would win. I did not want to watch this fight because I honestly thought this was a money grab by Cotto. The confidence he and Roach had going into this fight did not change my mind because both had been known to be such in the past. Man I have never been so happy to be wrong!

I dont give a **** what anybody says. What we saw was mostly Cotto being too fast and too skilled for Sergio. You really want to blame the knee? OK I will give you the first round. From then on once Sergio got his feet under him, Cotto was still landing his left hook over Segio's right hook at will. He was countering Sergio's left hands with right hands at will. He was moving his feet and cutting off the ring with ease. That was a brilliant, HOF display of boxing by Cotto. I had no idea he was capable of it at this stage of his career.

If this was a closer fight and Sergio had moments maybe i would understand. This was pure domination by Cotto in every way. I ket seeing how easily Jr. landed his left hook on Sergio and I wanted to believe Cotto would do the same, I just didn't think he had it in him. Such a great win. I refuse to believe Martinez's knees would have been a factor. Either way, Cotto hardly even got punched...

I knew this would be around after that fight. Sergio could not dodge a Cotto left hand to save his life. Go ahead and blame the knees. Sergio has always had leaky defense and no real boxing background. The truth is Cotto is the best boxer Martinez has ever faced by far, and size was not a factor tonight.

The only thing that gave me confidence of a Cotto win was the fact that Sergio really hadn't faced a guy who had a good left hand like Cotto does. Williams, Pavlik, Cintron, Macklin, Dzindruk, Chavez etc. None of them had even close to the left hook/left jab combo that Cotto had. Murray really made him pay with a few of them. I just thought the size would be too much for a 33 year old Cotto who has had double the wars that Martinez has had.

I'm not saying that was a prime Martinez out there, but really it was enought to tell me that even if that was the best Sergio Martinez out there that night, Miguel Coto was going to win.

            • Glad cotto smashed Sergio up

Sergio was a arrogant prick the whole build up talking as if he would steam roll cotto without resistance

              Cotto is a absolute warrior

              • Cong**** to Cotto, but this was the worst possible way this could have gone down. Sergio could barely stand up, he was hobbling back to the corner after every round.

And now we have to suffer either Floyd or Alvarez pouncing on this opportunity to snatch this belt while the real middleweights watch helplessly.

                    • That was an entertaining fight! I felt bad for Martinez, it was tough to see him lose like that it was obvious his knee was bothering him he is far past his prime he showed a lot of heart he's a legend. Great win for Cotto, he definitely should get credit for having one of if not the best performance of his career, he's also a legend as well. There are some big fights out there for him.
