First fight:
Brock is 27-0 with 21 KO's. Lawrence is 20-10 with 0 Ko's. That's right. It's not a misprint. "Zero" KO's. Who do you think is going to win? Actually both guys are big, active heavyweights. You wonder how Lawrence has gone his whole career without a KO. Eventually at 2:58 of the 6th (10 rounder) Brock hits Lawrence with a clean left hook. Lawrence is out before he hits the ground, but his head also bounces off the ring floor, and he doesn't move or blink for about 5 minutes. Why do they allow fights like this I don't know....
Second fight:
Mejia doesn't look like he belongs in the same ring with Mejia. After a couple of rings, he gets on his bicycle and is completely curred by Julio, who knocks him down twice. Julio is much stronger and Mejia quits on his stool. Didn't notice the round.
Third fight:
Gonzalez beats Johnson by a 1-punch KO. The ref stops the action. Johnson is way over the hill and ought to give it up. Gonzalez is a big, lanky guy but rather slow. Don't pay money to watch Johnson fight at this point.
Fourth fight:
1st round: Moseley comes out fast and active. He takes the first round
2nd round: Moseley's again.
3rd round: Moseley.
4th round: Vargas. Vargas is pressing the action the whole fight, but Mosely is faster and landing more, cleaner, and more accurate punches.
5th round: Even
6th round: Moseley takes it.
7th round: Vargas.
8th round: Even, but Vargas left eye is closed. To all appearances it looks completely closed and Moseley is landing the right hand freely.
9th round: Even again, although Vargas eye is worse all the time. He is pressing the action and exchanging. The doctors and official are talking at the end of the round. They can only be saying one thing: we will stop this fight soon under the circumstances. Vargas corner does not impress him with the urgency of the situation and he probably doesn't know the fight is in danger of being stopped. Although his eye appears closed, maybe he is seeing out of it. He doesn't show the signs of a blinded fighter.
10th round: Fight stopped when Moseley lands a series of right hands to the eye. By now, Vargas eye and surrounding area are so swollen he looks like he is part alien. Nobody says the fight shouldn't have been stopped, even the pro-Vargas people, except Vargas himself, who needs to look in a mirror. Vargas could have continued fighting in my mind, but nowadays they like to "protect" the fighter. Who's to say? Anyway, the judges had the fight scored 2-1 Moseley (the woman judge went with Vargas).
I thought Moseley won fair and square. He didn't show the power he had at lower weights, but he stepped up his activity. Although Vargas was the aggressor, bigger, and stronger, he failed to throw enough punches. Simply pressing forward without an effective offense is not enough to win a fight. If Moseley returns to 147, where he belongs, I would like to see him fight Mayweather.
