Comments Thread For: Photos: Miguel Cotto, Sergio Martinez Ready For War

Sergio Martinez made it in just under the 159-pound catchweight for his fight with Miguel Cotto on Saturday night at Madison Square Garden in New York City, coming in at 158.75 pounds for a bout being contested for Martinez’s middleweight championship.

Cotto, meanwhile, came in at 155 pounds, just above the junior-middleweight limit of 154 pounds, and a weight presumably intended to allow him to retain speed on a frame that has been competing at smaller weight classes, rather than slowing himself down by bulking up further.

there is a huge contrast in size. cotto's got a decent sized upper body, but his arms are woefully short for the middleweight division.

it's unfortunate, but this fight will be determined by the level of depletion in martinez. if he doesn't have the legs, he may lose these exchanges. cotto has great, great timing.

prime martinez knocks cotto out. surprisingly, and i'd have never believed it two years ago, cotto is the fresher man. martinez style depends on his legs, and they just fell off the deep end.

the best martinez we ever saw, in my opinion, was the guy who fought paul williams in their first fight.
