Why Pacquiao would mess up Saul Alvarez

MANILA, Philippines; Manny Pacquiao's former sparring partner Lydell Rhodes sees the Filipino boxer having an advantage over Mexico's Saul Alvarez if a slugfest between the two fighters materializes.

Rhodes knows that a fight between the two remains speculation but said that it would be an easy sell if the promoters will be able to work it out.

If they fought, that would be super big, the undefeated junior welterweight told "Hustle Boss."

Rhodes, who helped Pacquiao prepare for his rematch against Timothy Bradley, said "Canelo" will be forced to adjust his fighting style if he trades punches against the fleet-footed Filipino.

He said, Alvarez uses a methodical technical style wherein he uses his longer reach to keep his opponents at bay. Rhodes said the Mexican might not be able to do it against a smaller boxer like Pacquiao.

It'll kind of mess up Canelo's style because, I See Canelo as more of a boxer, said Rhodes. ***8220;If he fight someone like so small like Manny, he will pretty much go in and try to be a bully.

That will take him out of his style, Manny could probably capitalize [that], move around and box.

But Canelo has one obvious advantage over Pacquiao. His sheer size might be difficult for the diminutive boxer to handle, said Rhodes.

With a height advantage over Pacquiao, Alvarez is expected to use his superior heft to his benefit.

Everyone says size doesn't matter. Size does matter... you'll never know how it's gonna go, said Rhodes.

Pacquiao's business manager Michael Koncz said that there is a possibility that his client will face Alvarez as an alternative to a Floyd Mayweather Jr. fight. But he stressed that it will have to take place at a catchweight.

"We cannot go into the ring if there is no catchweight. It's too dangerous. We are not trying to get any advantage but just trying to protect the health of Manny," said Koncz.

Koncz said the Mexican is a viable alternative to Mayweather because of his PPV drawing power.

"It will be a substitute for a fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. and will be the next biggest fight and may very well rival a Manny-Floyd fight," said Koncz.

Alvarez, for his part, said that unless there is a negotiation for the match, the fight will remain just a dream.

I think it's a fight that could probably happen. They are fighters that are in their moment and if that fight happens, we're ready. At this point though, it's just rumors and we're ready for this fight [with Lara], he said in Boxing Scene.

He also maintained that he won't agree to a catchweight fight.

I think Manny beats Canelo, it would be similar to the DLH fight.

I also think Mandy's left is too much for Canelo to handle. The speed will be the difference in this.

This fight isnt gonna happen if they keep asking for a catchweight.

These people here been crying about Floyd draining Canelo. Imagine what would happen if Pacquiao fought Canelo at a catchweight.

At a catch weight possibly, if it's at 54 the size might be too much even for Manny.

Pacquiao gets knocked out without a catch-weight. Even at 152.

Except for Marquez, who got Manny's number. Pacquaio always beat the sh.it out of fighters floyd fought.
