That's good to know lol... With the name "Hanz" if you told me you were from Siberia I would have no reason to question it.

First of all - How can you even tell what race somebody is when they're discussing their favorite fighters? I mean, unless they come out and say something about Mexican pride, or Puerto Rican pride, you have absolutely no way of knowing the race of the poster that's responding because most people here prefer to remain anonymous instead of posting a profile pic.

Secondly, what does it even matter? Since its inception, boxing has been promoted as a contest between differing nationalities. Hell, it wasn't that long ago that boxing was heavily promoted as a contest between races (Jack Johnson and Joe Louis), and at one point in time it was even viewed as a clash of ideologies (remember all of the criticism Ali got when he announced that he was a black ******?).

While at times stunningly beautiful and poetic, our sport has a pretty ugly history.

To answer your question though - Yeah, I'm a white guy (pic in profile) and my favorite active fighters include Juan Manuel Marquez, Bernard Hopkins, Gennady Golovkin, and Lucas Matthysse. It doesn't get much more diverse than that.

What I find equally as disturbing as posters who only support fighters of their own nationality or race (they definitely exist here in droves) are posters who assume the race of poster simply based on which fighters he or she supports, though. It wasn't that long ago that everybody here thought I was black just because I was a Hopkins fan when most others weren't. That's a bit racist in and of itself.

I root for all kinds of fighters, and I've been a fan of all kinds as well. I focus on Cuban fighters nowadays, since we were excluded from the pro ranks for so long. But I've been a boxing fan since the early-seventies, so I've seen many come and go. I usually choose a side as soon as a fight is announced. I became a fan of Sergio Martinez during the first P. Will fight. I'll be rooting for him on Saturday. Not that I have anything against Cotto, of course.

You're a model of humanity and fairness.

Pat yourself on the back and then make a thread about it.

Well, two sum things up it's kind of a dead ringer when the user has the name "The Mexican" and has tunnel vision about anything outside of Mexican boxers.
Btw, this is a made up name strictly as an example.

It doesn't necessarily "matter" I just see users who kind of cling on to a handful of boxers solely because of their nationality, and it's hard for me to relate because I'm not like that. I relate to styles and attitudes, the guy behind the style and attitude could be green as far as I'm concerned.

It's just a question, and observation. I would prefer to get more answers of people telling me I'm crazy then telling me I'm right in this case, if that's any consolation to you.
