A massive weekend in New York City dedicated in and out of the ring to Puerto Rico will now also include one of the island’s fastest rising young stars. Hours before Argentina’s Sergio Martinez defends his World middleweight championship versus Miguel Cotto this weekend, unbeaten super featherweight Jose Pedraza will ply his trade in front of a packed house at Madison Square Garden.

Pedraza’s status on the card was tentatively set for a six-round bout versus Arturo Uruzquieta, which will air live on WAPA-TV.

"Miguel Cotto is one of the best fighters to come out of Puerto Rico and I want to become a household name in my country just like he did," said Pedraza (16-0, 10KO), who shares Cotto's hometown of Caguas, Puerto Rico. Lets set this right. Verdejo is a big lightweight, Pedraza is IBF featherweight champion. Verdejo is still growing, he is 10 lbs heavier now, so mentioning Pedraza as a non opponent is just more disrespect. Name dropping, that's all. I hope good things happen for Pedraza, he earned it.

Nobody wants to talk to me? Let me say that the guy Pedraza is about to fight is probably better than Verdejo. He is taller, and is a traveler too. This is no picnic for Pedraza. 6 rounds? They are campaigning in the same weight class right now. Pedraza is no champion. He have the IBO belt. Nothing more. Are you sure you are even following them?
