Comments Thread For: Sergey Kovalev Continues Hunt For August Opponent

It's a bum deal for all involved - but Kovalev got the HBO contract and there just ain't anyone decent to fight him now. Stevenson and Hopkins are obviously out, Dawson too since he signed with Haymon, Pascal looks to be trying to fight Cloud, Bellews moving up (along with Cleverly and Sillakh) - who the hell is left?
Braehmer would be a decent opponent - though he's made something of a habit of avoiding other beltholders, Chilemba's been mentioned already and obviously Fonfara - when he's ready, but that's about it for recognisable names at LHW.
It's worth casting an eye over the Boxrec rankings at LHW to see just how barren the division is outside of the top few names (they have Caparello at #10 FWIW) - there's a couple of rising names - Thomas Williams Jr for instance, but he's not even of the calibre of Cedric Agnew IMO.Last edited by Citizen Koba; 06-04-2014, 09:47 AM.Comment

No way he fights Baehmer or gets anywhere near him. He should fight Chilemba, Duva probably trying to milk both while she can before she matches them. Chilemba will either be on a NBC card or on the August cardComment

How many more people would avoid Kovalev if he destroyed Chilemba?Comment

I should have known that breakout year last year was too good to be true. That path of destruction is going to make it very hard going forward. It already sent Stevenson running.Comment

Probably the same amount as now.
Beating Chilemba isn't going to deter anybody that isn't already doing so.
That's a good fight, but I just hope ME are able to showcase Chilemba more so people know he's actually good and just don't dismiss him after they fightComment

The LHW division is pretty shallow anyway, It was break or bust this year hinging on Stevenson. No Stevenson, pretty much nothing left at the LHW division left of note. Fonfara raised his stock, so that's the biggest fight he can make this year.Comment
