Bedford ****er Matt Skelton produced a powerhouse performance in his bid to wrest the Commonwealth heavyweight crown from Danny Williams.
Through 12 rounds of gruelling confrontation, Skelton looked to be heading to a narrow win as he continually pinned the more technically-proficient Williams back.
As the two exhausted fighters entered the final round, Skelton looked good for victory - but Williams dredged up a last three minutes of courageous counterpunching which rocked Skelton to his boots and left the bloodied Bedford man dead on his feet at the final bell.
In the end Williams was given victory on a split decision, and is now heading towards a world title fight.
But fight stager Frank Warren promised that if he couldn't set up a world title bout a rematch was definitely on the cards after the amazing show the two combatants put on in the London Excel arena on Saturday night.
