I keep seeing this question posed in the few threads since todays news came out. Usually, the people asking this question, ride the floyd/haymon tip pretty hard. Let me ask you guys,
"who is going to replace the brand, Oscar De La Hoya?" Yes, Oscar alone, is a boxing brand. Which is why it was easy for him to make Golden Boy Promotions. Of course hes not the brains behind the operation, but he is the face, the face that many people worldwide, have liked, for over 2 decades now. That likability is a huge reason for his success as a promoter. People liked to watch Oscar fight, so its no problem for them to pay to see the fights he promotes.
Now tell me, why do people tune in to see Floyd? Its obviously not his charm, or his wit. Its not his knockouts or action packed fights. Bottom line, people pay to see him lose. And it works for him. Which is great for him. But how does that translate into a successful promotional company? How does that make fans want to pay for a MayHaymon Promoted fight when he isn't fighting anymore?
