Comments Thread For: Espinoza: De La Hoya, Schaefer Can Thrive on Their Own

In the wake of Richard Schaefer leaving his post at Golden Boy Promotions on Monday, the question now becomes what the former CEO plans to do next.

On the afternoon of May 3, Oscar De La Hoya, the company’s president, fielded questions in a reporters’ roundtable about his alleged rift with Schaefer and rumors that the CEO was aiming to start his own promotional outfit with powerful adviser Al Haymon.

After all, it had been revealed that several fighters who had been appearing on Golden Boy cards were actually signed with Haymon alone -- and not with the promotional company. [Click Here To Read More]

Espinoza's loyalty lays with Al Haymon first and foremost. God, this is like the Game of Thrones without the nude scenes

Golden Boy will be fine. Oscar will hire another numbers guy like Shaefer, they are a dime a dozen. As long as ODL is involved sponser and networks will want to be associated with him.
Shaefer will be ok. Snakes like him are survivors, they are always looking out for themselves and always have a backup plan. I am sure Richard has been preparing for this split for months, if not years.

                  Schaefer can thrive, Oscar can't.

Oscar! You know why you don't know what's going on? Because you were doing coke, dressed in a black lace bodysuit, and red high heels! While you were gone, Floyd and Canelo just broke the all time revenue records for a boxing match. Showtime is the king of the welterweight and Jr. Middleweight divisions. The Mayweather/Maidana fight had the highest PPVs of 2014. Other than that, you haven't really missed much.
