  • Comments Thread For: Chris Algieri Sued By His Ex-Manager For $350,000

According to the New York Post, junior welterweight contender Chris Algieri has been hit with a $350,000 lawsuit from his former manager, Humberto Romero. Algieri is scheduled to challenge WBO 140-pound champion Ruslan Provodnikov in an HBO televised fight next Saturday night at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

In the legal complaint, filed in Manhattan, Romero says he was fired in February 2013, but claims he was due an extension because Algieri was injured for a period of 18 months. Romero claims the injury layoff would extend his contract with Algieri until October 2014.

i dont get it. there's no 18-month layoff according to his record. unless this guy was his manager during his kickboxing day and there was time between that period and his boxing career

Wanting the contract to be extended due to injury layoffs? Isn't that what Arum is trying to do with Chavez Jr?

Is there some type of stipulation saying that if the fighter is injured then it extends the manager's contract? We need more info.

                  Oh... and **** this leech.

Unless the fighter was PRETENDING to be injured to wait out a contract there's no room for a lawsuit.

Compare it to an office worker's boss suing his employee because they took a month off for urgent back surgery. He would not only be laughed out of the court room but probably counter-sued.
