Who Was Ahead Before the KO: Froch vs Groves II

I've heard interviews with both Froch and Groves from this morning as they left the hotel with both fighters claiming to have been well ahead before the KO.

Froch said "I beat a young fast kid at his own game for 5, 6 or 7 rounds"
while Groves said "I felt like it was all one way traffic and I was winning the rounds".

HBO's Steve Weisfeld had Groves ahead. Sky's presenters had Froch ahead and they were surprised when, during a mid-fight interview, Amir Khan said he had Groves ahead. Personally I had Froch winning by one round at the time of the KO.

Not that it matters at all because the round 8 KO was a very decisive and conclusive finish, but just out of interest who did you have ahead at the round 8 stage?

Groves 5 rounds to 2. I felt he was landing more and cleaner. Froch had his spurts but honestly not a lot would land flush, Groves even won a lot of those exchanges. But you could feel that Groves was putting himself in danger more and more and that Froch was closing in on him.

U said it all there. All that doesn't matter because of that monster right Froch landed.

All props go to Froch last night for boxing far better than the previous bout and pulling it out of the bag in classic style with potentially the ko of the year… but come the **** on! I don't know whether I was being slightly bias because of Jim Watt's frankly nonsensically pro-Froch commentary, or not, but I felt Groves lost 1 maybe two rounds at the absolute most, the only definitive Froch round being the 5th, as I remember it.

You can talk about Froch pushing the fight and holding the centre of the ring all you want but if you're landing nearly nothing clean and getting tagged frequently yourself however "fight making" you are doesn't mean jack ****!

Groves had obviously learnt from the first fight, despite his talk in the build up, that he couldn't KO Froch and was clearly trying to conserve his energy and outbox Carl, maybe a little too much in the early rounds and especially when he clearly hurt Froch with the hard jab. He did this in nearly every round landing consistently with the jab to the head then to the body combo. He was also landing cleanly with overhand rights, not doing much damage but rocking Froch's head back nonetheless. He was landing with the counter left hook in the centre of the ring as Froch came wading in and during the exchanges, when he was pinned against the ropes, he was blocking nearly everything aside from the body shots, I'll give it to the cobra those were vicious, and answering back with shots of his own before wheeling off of the ropes.

It wasn't all Groves' fault that he got KO'd, Carl set it up beautifully with the left hook/jab feint, but in the end George really wasn't "gassing" as everyone claims and was actually having one of his best rounds in the 8th before he made a silly mistake in the throwing a wild counter left hook, a move that contributed to him getting stopped in the last fight as well.

But in the end it's a subjective sport and I'm a boxing scene N00B.

Cracking fight and great night for boxing.

Groves 4-3, but it was all close.

The only thing that is certain is that Jim Watt sees a fight exactly the way he wants to.

Do we really have to have 5 different threads about a scorecard of a fight where one was completely flattened?

It was just about evened up but Groves may have had a small lead.

                    Groves 4-3, maybe even 5-2..

But groves just isn't world class and it showed.. He did great but seems to hit a wall after 5 rounds...
