I don't understand why low blows get you five minutes, but cuts only get you a a short look and a small dab by the doctor. Illegall cuts should automatically should give corner at least 2 minute to work on it. It's an an unfair disadvantage to fight with. Might prevent stuff from today from happening.
Why aren't illegal cuts treated as seriously as low blows?

That is probably true, I don't know what it would prevent but it would mitigate the disadvantage a bit. -

i agree...also headbutts causing cuts could be a harder blow and have a worse effect than a punch so it really puts a fighter to a big disadvantage especially if the cut is around the eye area as it could affect the vision.Comment

I think they dont mandate that because it opens the door to the fight being paused every time the cut starts flowing, and bothering the fighter over and over again which can happen literally all through the fight if the cut is bad enough or the corner cut man is not competent enough.Comment

Getting cracked in the nuts can make it near impossible to continue so the fighter gets the benefit of the 5 minutes if he wants it, where as a cut you can continue. But yeah extra time to work on an illegal cut isn't a bad idea really.Comment

I've never heard of the term "illegal cut" used in boxing before, but most— if not all cuts, are usually sustained by an unintentional headbutt or a glancing blow. Intentional cuts are more easily perceived than low blows, in the rare instances that it does happen, the ref shouldn't have any trouble discerning who's at fault and a point deduction will be issued depending on the severity of the cut.
To sum it all up, intentional cuts don't happen as often as low blows, at least not enough to warrant a change in the rule book by the commissions standards.Last edited by Holy Hatred; 06-27-2014, 10:58 AM.Comment
