Why do some fans tout PBF's victory over a 7-1 underdog?

I find it amusing, and it also tells ya that his followers have low standards for their fighter. I mean, if that was PBF's best performance against a heavy underdog, it's not so much what Maidana did, it kind of exposes PBF as a fighter. That maybe, just maybe, he ain't all that.

Because Maidana has improved a LOT since losing to Khan.

    And Floyd is proven.

Tout? He won a hard fought figh, dirty, exciting fight. Its rare for him. Every fighter in tmhistiry have had their tough fights against underdogs. Every one. Floyd is proven. It's not like we don't know he's the real deal.

PBF is the real deal, but, how good is he really when he couldn't cruise through victory against a 7-1 underdog.

Yes, Maidana has improved. But, he was still an overwhelming underdog despite his recent improvements(I'm pretty sure the oddsmakers took that into consideration). What does that tell ya about PBF?

This is what Floyd fans cling to. Floyd always fights better versions than everyone else. He fought a better hatton than Pac?. Better Maidana than Alexander or khan did?
Next they'll tell you he fought a better version of DLH than SSM and BH did and a better version of JMM than Pac did.

Floyd should not be no1 p4p based on the Maidana result. He cherry picked a opponent everyone expected him to beat convincingly, and he didn't. There has got to be payback, there has to be penalties in the real world.

He was favourite against Maidana because people thought Floyd was real good. Reality is Floyd struggled so isn't as good as the pedestal he was placed on. So what are you going to do about? You have to put Floyd to the level he performed.

It tells us that Floyd is getting old, and past his prime. The guy is 37 years old.

Floyd at this point in his career is vastly overrated.

Quoting odds is ridiculous.... who in the welterweight division would be bookmakers favorite to beat Floyd? He is favorite to beat everyone (hence being ranked P4P #1) and therefore saying 'beating somebody he was favored to win against isn't impressive' is a redundant statement. Bookmakers odds are based on what we think will happen in a fight the majority of the time based on previous perceptions... but what is most likely to happen doesn't always happen... if it did, what would be the point in watching any sport? If in tennis Rafael Nadal has a close first round match against a non-ranked opponent, do we then write him off as overrated and believe he has no chance in the tournament? No, of course not. The true great sportsman are the ones who achieve at the highest level the majority of the time. Blips happen but the key is remaining as consistent as possible.... which is precisely what Floyd has done throughout his career.

If we're gonna play the who was favorite/who was underdog game then there are many fights to discredit throughout history. An underdog giving the favorite a tough fight or even a loss, is as common as Floyd/Pac threads in NSB.
