  • Legacy: Home Turf V.S. Foreign Soil

I was wondering how the general public views this aspect of boxing in terms of legacy.

We all know when it comes to your home turf there will be a bias, for instance Martinez-Murray. Being that the fight was in Martinez home turf Argentina, Sergio got the nod from the judges. IMO This is acceptable because he didn't have the benefit of the doubt in the Kermit Cintron and the first Paul Williams fight; Murray knew he had to get the KO but failed.

But what happens when you have a fighter who only fights on their home turf? Does it hurt their legacy because they more than likely always have the benefit of the doubt from the judges?

You have an ATG in Ali Raymi, but the undisputed king only fights in Yeman. This is a very difficult task for his opponents to overcome. The 100's of Yeman fans in attendance chanting "kill em, Kill em, kill em, Raymi" is physically taxing. Just knowing that all the fans are against you and want your blood can make you antsy before you even fight. No one can rank Raymi number 1 P4P because he refuses to fight out of Yeman

Muhammad Ali fought on foreign soil 16 times IMO this greatly enhances his legacy

Even Joe Calzaghe fought Jr and BHOP on foreign soil which IMO greatly enhances his legacy

Does fighting outside of your home turf enhance W's and Legacy??
