    Great Boxing Pairs

Boxing has had its fair share of terrific team ups, Ali/Dundee, Cus/Tyson, Futch/Frazier, Manny/Hearns, Nacho/JMM and so on. What's your favourite? Post some more that you know, and why.

My fav is always Dundee and ALi, two vastly different men, working and succeeding in an era when it was thought to be impossible, not least of all because of young Ali's own prejudiced views at the time. Dundee got through it and the two remained great friends, mentor and apprentice? Maybe.

Dundee always said, "Ali likes to hear his own praise so whenever he isn't doing something I want I just say, "Oh that was a beautiful hook" and then he'd throw that punch, as if it was his own idea."
That lil story always cracks me up, Dundee the psychological genius

Angelo Dundee and Muhammad Ali are probably the most iconic but I never had a chance to meet them when they were still working but I did personally have two great professional relationships, one with the inimitable Manny Steward and Tommy Hearns and the other and possibly more memorable pair, of Futch and Bowe. Those two were so different I couldn't believe it, Rid****, the young heavyweight upstart who modeled himself as the next Ali, Futch, the seasoned vet who liked things his way.

I met the two several times throughout the 90s and whenever they were together, there was only one man Rid**** respected and that was Futch, sadly he didn't respect him enough to listen to him for the entirety of his career, a loss for Bowe the boxer and we the fans.

Manny and Tommy were probably the best oiled machine I've ever seen in boxing. Manny knew Tommy like the back of his hand, he knew how to push on him, make him mad or just back off and let Tommy flow. I remember heading into Vegas for the Virgil Hill fight and not finding Manny anywhere, I'd heard they'd parted ways but I always thought Manny would find his way back. It didn't happen that night.

Anyway, ramblings of an old men, good thread.

The fact that Manny Pacquiao and Freddie Roach haven't even been mentioned yet is crazy.

Yeah, they're absolutely a fantastic pair.

Like most great boxer/trainer relationships in boxing history, it runs much deeper than just "I train you and you fight."

I didn't want to mention all of them but yeah, Pacman and Roach are just great, more championships and great wins then I care to remember, the most iconic pair of the 21st century.

                  Duran/Arcel too of course.
