  • Comments Thread For: Miguel Cotto: I Will Carry My Power To Middleweight

Miguel Cotto was one of the most devastating punchers in the sport at 140 and 147, and even showed some pop at '54.

However, Cotto is once again moving up in weight, and will face middleweight champ Sergio Martinez at a catchweight of 159 on June 7. Will he able to inflict damage in yet another weight class?

I wonder how much Cotto will weigh in at, he's gonna need speed if he wants to beat Martinez. Precise shots and speed.

But once Martinez connects, its over. Cotto will fade late like usual and be prime for the taking.

Doubtful,, he didn't have much power at 154. Only way cotto wins is if serg is old and broken down

Yeah, when you think about some of the guys at MW like Pavlik and GGG its pretty silly to imagine little Cotto having 'power' by the standards of the division.

These "I'm moving up but not really moving up and you have to fight 0.0003 pounds below the division limit then I move back down in weight" fights are silly. Sergio himself is a small MW and dwarfs Cotto.

Truth is, even though Martinez was unable to move or train for a year, he should have no problem getting to 159. In reality, Martinez is not much bigger than cotto. People forget Martinez campaigned at 154 but was giving the chance to fight for the title at 160 that's why he moved up. He is possibly the smallest middle weight lenial champ ever. Only advantage he really has over cotto is the experience of fighting at that weight, but that should be no prob for cotto as he's been in the ring with the best. Martinez and his fans will be SHOCKED when they see cotto wearing Martinez down and eventually KO him in the late rounds. Cotto had underrated boxing skills, plus devastating power. I could argue that cotto is the best boxer Martinez has faced and the most powerful. Add that work roach and his ability to come up with a winning game plan= long night for Martinez
