Comments Thread For: Groves Rejects Polish Judge For Froch Rematch

The horse trading and mind games surrounding next weekend’s Froch-Groves rematch looks set to continue almost right up to the first bell on 31 May. Groves, of course, got this particular ball rolling when he objected not only to referee Howard Foster, but also campaigned successfully to have neutral officials installed throughout. As a result there will be no British presence either in the ring, or on the judging panel.

But exactly who will be deemed acceptable to both parties is threatening to descend into the kind of jury selection process normally associated with high profile American legal trials.

He's beginning to crack under the pressure, mind games aren't working and he's not getting things his own way. The cobra is closing in for the kill.

So we have a boxingscene (Skysports) writer stating:

Most significant of all, Jankowiak also worked the European heavyweight title fight between Robert Helenius and Dereck Chisora in December 2011. In what was widely regarded as a travesty of scoring, Helenius was awarded the fight on a split decision. Two of the judges saw it in the Finn***8217;s favour, 115-113. The dissenting voice who voted in favour of Chisora ***8211; scoring it 115-113 to the Londoner ***8211; belonged to Jankowiak.
So it's a travesty that 2 judges scores a fight 7-5 and the third 5-7? Huh? It's a close fight.

          And then he concludes:
The guy knows what he***8217;s doing.
Which implies that the 2 other judges did not. Scoring a travesty one guy knew what he was doing. IN A 7-5 FIGHT! Come on man.

Now that was a little nitpicking towards the writer.

Towards Groves rejection it is worth noting that Helenius fought for Sauerland and the rejected judge was the guy who scored in favour of the non-Sauerland fighter.

Groves inked a deal with Sauerland last week. There you have it. The writer did not include that pretty important info.

At least Szef99 and Poland have 1/4 of a boxer they can root for!

Another important bit missed out is that Froch is half polish (or maybe a quarter).

                They should reject him.

Not on the basis of that nationality stuff, but on the basis of him being crap. It was some atrocious scoring for a fight that was at worst 8-4 Chisora and realistically 9-3.

Didn't Froch reject the first referee Jack Reiss? Don't see how Groves is any more of a 'diva' for this. It's just more gamesmanship/controversy
