Report from Willie Monroe's last day of camp in Tampa

I just posted these pictures in another thread, but I figured I would start another (not related to predictions) to share some of this info.

Full disclosure: I am a former amateur training partner of Willie Monroe Jr. and, more importantly, I am fortunate enough to consider him a good friend. I just want to make this clear because, clearly, I am not a detached observer going into Friday's fight.

Anyway, just to report: Monroe is very sharp and in good condition -- he was 162 on Tuesday evening. They spent the day in gym running through the gameplan and making sure to stay on point physically. He seems to be in a good place mentally -- confident, but serious and certainly aware of how dangerous Adams is.

Here are a couple of photos from the end of the day. From left: Sherman Henson (head trainer at Legend's Gym), Jeff Lacy, Monroe, and Danny Akers (Monroe's trainer and my former amateur trainer).

        Thanks for the heads-up.

Willie Monroe has looked good in his last two fights. He has had the toughest schedule of all Boxcino fighters, lightweights included. Bondorovas was a solid fighter (for those who had seen him against Brian Vera). I was impressed with the way he outboxed him. He looked very good against Kopylenko too.

He is light on his feet and looks very strong too, as he stood his ground and stayed on the inside a few times in both fights. He seems more polished than Adams with probably a deeper amateur background, and if he fights the way he usually? (only seen his Boxcino fights) does he should take this.

That is cool thanks for the info, Willie Monroe has been very impressive so far to me and seems like he has some potential to make some future noise especially if he can continue to hone his craft further.

Willie definitely has a lot more amateur experience -- somewhere in the 130-140 fight range, if I'm not mistaken. Plus, he's been in with a bunch of the best guys domestically and internationally. In his last amateur bout, he dropped a competitive decision to Shawn Porter in the national Golden Gloves finals (or semi-finals ... I don't remember).

If he continues to use his movement more deliberately and with purpose and sits down on his punches as he did against Kopylenko, I think it will be a successful night for him.

Willie's a sharp fighter, and he appears to be a sharp person as well. He acquits himself well on camera, something I always like to see in a fighter. It's nice to see guys like him get some exposure. I wish him well.

Some fresh air is always good and middleweight could certainly use some fresh air, and yea he does seem like a well grounded solid individual.
