  • Boxing, of course. There is nothing aesthetically pleasing about MMA or UFC or whatever they label the human cockfighting feces rolling around inside a cage.

    • I don't mind watching the occasional MMA fight.

      But I'm a boxing purist.

Boxing will always be the front running blood sport and for a reason. People want to see guys punching each other out, not transsexual judo.

Boxing is a far more elite sport. I tell you what it's a lot more difficult learning how to slip punches and stuff like that than it is rolling around on the ****ing floor, it takes a LOT more!

I don't think MMA is a very professional or elite sport. Like Larry Merchant once said, it's hard to take a sport seriously when the world champions can regularly have green and/or bum records and only partially related pedigrees.

Idont know about that one elroy...lol....Grappling is very effective and scientific in many ways more than strictly delivering punches...theres just to many variables when it comes to MMA because theres practically a limitless supply of moves.....not sure if you actually follow MMA but there are slightlymore knock outs in MMA then boxing...i would say its up to the individual weather they pick up striking or grappling easier both is an equal art ,being very balanced myself ,i can tell you first hand ..years ago i had a street fight with at the time an up and comer HW boxer who was about 6'3 250 ,he was a part time sparring partner for Wladimir and i cleaned his clock using grappling the fight lasted about 30 seconds i toyed with him ,choked him out ,helped his wobbly ass up and sent him on his way, point is i dont know how trying to break bones /submit ppl can be looked at as soft.Merchant is not a fighter and prize fighting and MMA have one thing in common ..they are combat sports, they just both require different skills. You cannot say MMA is really not elite when National,Olympic, worlfd and amauer champions in differents arts compete in it.And yes sometimes alot of stalemate grappling in MMA but you have to take into account all the clinching in boxing and many guys now in boxing just point fighting for 12 rnds ...just me personally id rather see guys who end fights within 7 minutes which is about a round an a half in ufc which is about what an average fight lasts...im a fan of both ,but into more fighting disciplines than just boxing ,the more combat sports we have the better it is for everyone. And yes boxing is more purely technical but theres far less rules which enables it to look cleaner .........both can be equal in entertainment and thats what its all about.

        • Yeah Juggernaut, I know that MMA is not really just rolling around on the floor

My old gym used to have JuJitsu and I had a go at that. I gave it up because the muscle soreness in the neck and arms and burnout from wrestling made me slow for boxing and unable to train as well for that.

It's a very technical art no doubt.

And as I said I do like watching it.

For me I rather like the game of chess and the strategy of pure boxing far more, it's just a preference I guess because I've grown up with it.

I really do think that MMA is not as developed a sport as boxing and that is why it's ranked fighters are not of a comparable level as the boxers are, that's not to say that the boxers could beat them or anything like that, it's just that I find it more amateurish level than professional boxing in terms of what it takes for them to reach the top of their sport.

          • Boxing all day. A few tears ago MMA had gained a lot of ground and people felt it was taking over boxing but the tide has shifted wih alll of the great boxing matchups we've had over the years. Add May-Pac to the mix and boxing is on top. I prefer it because it's a more developed sport. It has been around for decades and has had a chance to grow from presentation to the skills of the fighters.

MMA has the lamest presentation I've ever seen for a pro sport. It looks like WWE but cheaper. The fights lack drama usually and are over in minutes. The commentators are worse than Lampley on his worst night. There are only a few really skillful guys but the entire sport seems to be more committed to the ground game than striking. When you think martial arts you expect more skills to be displayed. Not just waiting for the opponent to rush in, grab them, then do an arm bar. Or, my favorite, the ground pound. That's kind of boring to me.

And think of the longevity of the fighters. None of them last long in the sport and make pennies with Dana White's business model. Pac and Floyd have been around since the 90s and are both about to make another career high payday. Not to mention guys like Amir Khan or even Maidana have received huge purses for fighting, potentially setting them up for life after boxing(if they don't waste it).

Maybe with some changes to the business, presentation, and format of the fights MMA will rise to the level of boxing but as of now it's very much the preferred sport for "bro" types and bandwagon riding chicks who just want to get drunk and see guys hit each other with no considerable skill involved.

Boxing TKOs MMA in one round.

Yea the variables make it much more difficult in MMA to stay as a champion ,as we both know a guy like Wladimir is head ad shoulders above his competition, when other factors like grappling ,kicking etc are enforced its extremely difficult to predict an out come ,thats why no one in UFC history has defended the HW belt more than 3 times before losing...its not a lack of talent its just a progress of constant talent .UFC fighters are forced to fight top ranked fighters they cant pick and choose which is the way boxing should be ...they are not getting free rides to championship fights...did you see B riggs opponent Zoltan,or who ever that 'less of a bum was?

What variables make it harder to stay a champion? There is less competition in the sport and in the divisions, and the talent pool is lower. Being a champion in boxing is a bigger achievement.
