I don't know how many times I read about a fight being done, and a deal being struck, only to find out that it isn't true. But when Dan reports it, it's usually accurate.

You've hit on the key point. Rafael gets that call confirming a fight before everyone else. And he gets that call because he's a house pet.

Rafael doesn't rock the boat, he stays cosy with the people who have power and he gets his little privileges in return. He gets to be first announce a fight, or the one who gets to tell a promoters version of events.

And he maintains this position by never doing any real journalism. He doesn't investigate anything or anyone. He doesn't explore controversial issues. He doesn't ask any difficult questions.

He's everything that's wrong with journalism. He stays snug with the powerful so he can be the first to re-type their press releases for them. In return he gets to 'break' stories, if you understand breaking a story to be writing whatever Richard Schaefer or Bob Arum tells him to write when they ring him.

Yeah, biased or not - pro klitschko is what matters.

lol pretty much, and he resents the guys that are doing the real journalism who get to the info before him. He's a pompous tit.

I like Dan Rafeal, he keeps it real when talking about Mayweather, Pacquiao, Haymon, Ellerbe, Arum and al the other clowns infesting this sport.
He is not afraid to offend anyone and that's how journalist should approach their job. Too many nuthuggers like fighthype and radiorahim sucking the **** and don't bring anything of journalistic value to the sport.

Playing devil's advocate, if Rafael became exactly what you envisioned, he'd be shutdown quite quickly and he'd have far less resources at his disposal. The thing about professional boxing is that it's a really small world. There are few players at the table. Pissing off one player can get yourself removed from the table altogether.

I snuck into the press room at the Mayweather Canelo weigh in. I meat Schaeffer, he was nice and fat Dan was annoyed I asked for a picture with. He said when he was done eating. He ordered 2 large peperoni pizzas to himself no joke. I didnt want a pic anyways.

Right, but he doesn't have to be a dick about it. Unfortunately, he is, condescending to other writers, certain fighters and fans. Until of course, it suits him to be nice then he switches.

Both Dan Rafael and Michael Woods are excellent boxing writers. Rafael isn't perfect, but his good far outweighs (pardon the pun) his bad.

They're both better than SI's Kevin Iole and The Ring's Satterfield & Rosenthal.

Another good writer is Przemek Garczarczyk, who is usually on top of breaking news
