    Rehydration Clauses

Do you think there was a rehydration clause in Marquez vs Alvarado? Vs Rios and Provodnikov Alvarado came in closer to 160, while vs Marquez, Mike came in at 153. It looks really su****ious where physically bigger fighters vs high profile opponents (from lower weight classes) come to the ring looking like ghosts of their former selves. Angulo (vs Canelo), Canelo (vs Mayweather) and Alvarado (vs Marquez) all come to mind recently.

Part of me wonders if Martinez didn't have to sign a non disclosure agreement vs Cotto. I guess we will find out in two weeks if Martinez looks like a dead man walking come fight night. BTW, I am a huge Cotto fan.

Me personally I think there needs to be a big change in the boxing weights before the fight saga, its far too early to lose all that weight n rehydrate over night. I think they should have at least 48hrs before fight night, so rather than being weighed on a Friday night they should be weighed on a Thursday, this would allow a healthy rehydration period and present less risk for fighters on fight night.

I'd rather there be rehydration clauses than catchweights.

Doesn't the IBF or one of the paper belt organizations have a 10 pound limit for their title fights to rehydrate? I like that. It would hopefully force guys to fight at weights they actually belong at if that was a uniform rule, rather than starve and dope to pick on smaller guys.

Both are easily loop-holed. The IBF rule is 10 pounds (or is it %), but the weight is taken in the early morning of the fight. I do think that the fight last night had a limit, theres no way mike chose to weigh 153

I sort of disagree with fight time rehydration limits, fighters should be fully hydrated during fights

This is what I am talking about. All the talk about Mayweather (gloves) and how Martinez is calling Cotto a diva, makes you realize how stacked the deck is against the "B" side fighter.

I disagree. I think this will only further the problem you mentioned. They moved it back from day of weigh ins to day before so that people will be better hydrated for fights but all it did was have guys losing and gaining more weight. Yes they have more time to rehydrate but now they are just fighting in lower weight classes and using the time to rehydrate more.

I personally hate rehydration clauses (unless a guy misses weight). If you are willing to put in the extra work to get the weight advantage and can keep your promise to make the weight, then more power to you. On the other hand if you do try and get the advantage and mid-camp you decide its not worth it anymore and miss weight then **** you, I fully agree with adding a rehydration clause on you
