Woah. I'm not even gonna touch the bold. lol

For all intents and purposes, the line is drawn where the line is drawn. We can argue about where it ought to be, but that's another matter. The sport determines what constitutes cheating. That cannot be debated without a change of rules. As fans, we are certainly entitled to our opinions. In the real world, you and I know that a habitual steroid cheat is more loathsome than an athlete who uses a relatively mild banned substance to recover from an injury.

You either neglected to read the appropriate posts, or your reading comprehension leaves something to be desired. Several of us have said that acne on a 40 year old man is su****ious, not 100% condemning. It's the fact that there are other su****ious signs, where Marquez is concerned, that make the acne more a topic of debate. And you really believe all cheaters get caught?

I agree. I think the issue is that boxing is for the most part well behind the times in understanding these distinctions, and understanding the drug issue in general.

I think that does matter simply because serious dopers who go way beyond the pale are less likely to suffer the reputational consequences they should. Instead they're just regarded as 'another one' to add to the list, because the sport doesn't really register the difference between someone using epo and designer steroids and the guy who takes a strong caffeine supplement.

In most sports it wouldn't matter so much, because there are standardised protocols for dealing with drug cheats and people get banned from competitions. In boxing, a guy can be exposed as a doper, or even fail a test, and be back competing in a year or so because there's nobody with the power to deal with them as they should be dealt with.

Damage to reputation is all you really have to punish people in this sport. For that reason I think it genuninely does matter that people can see the difference between the high end guys and the dumbasses who get caught for something minor.

The paragraph in bold is insightful. I think you're right; it's all we really have...and all we're ever likely to have. It's an indictment on the sport. Boxing, as an institution, is a joke. There is no worthwhile system in place to deal with a serious problem that's affecting all sports. Nor is there the money to deal with it. Would it even matter? The sport is built on corruption. Can a legacy like that bode well for positive change?
