  • Comments Thread For: Arum Admits Talks With Chavez Jr. Have Been Difficult

Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum has admittedly had a difficult time in negotiating the next fight for former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Recently, Chavez rejected an offer to face Gennady Golovkin on an HBO Pay-Per-View date in July, because the Mexican star refused to agree to Top Rank's contractual clause of a two-fight extension.

Chavez has been very vocal regarding his desire to become a free agent and he believes his contract with Top Rank is expiring soon, but Arum maintains the contract is good until October 2015. [Click Here To Read More]

Chavez Jr keeps forgetting everything we tell him and has had Afroman playing on a loop for the past four days.

My questions would be. Why can't he earn that same money with you as a free agent Bob? You brag how you and Marvin Hagler had a fight by fight basis deal. Whats the problem now?

He definitely should have took the 6.6 mill with the extension,I mean if he didn't have that Chavez name he'd be on ESPN.Besides if he does leave top rank who does GB have in their stable at 168 that would net him 7 mill dollars, the kid is delusional.

            Greed!

I personally think it has to do with greed!! Fighters want more.. promoters want more..

I do also think Chavez's team may be on to something.. like numbers wise.. he probably saw the amount of $$ he's bringing in and somehow doesn't justify the amount of $$ he's getting paid.. which at the end goes to the Bobfather.. (greediest bastard in boxing).. and the advisor don't help.. cause he wants more $$..

$$ is the reason why certain p4p boxers are jokes!!

Maybe Arum doesn't feel confident that Chavez, JR will put on a good show against GGG, and remain with TR afterward. With his reputation, why pay him top dollar for a fight he may or may not show up for in top shape? Furthermore, why pay him top dollar and give him the opportunity to bolt to Schaefer and Showtime?

Chavez jr and Mickey garcia really need to start recognizing their worth. When berto can get 1.5 million for a tune-up on hbo, these guys who actually draw a crowed and make money deserve a fair whack more.

You must be trippin, he's gonna make way more when he's a free agent. He can fight with anyone and not be strong armed to take a fight between a limited stable of fighters. He's smartening up and becoming his own boss. He will be able to negotiate with all promoter and get the highest $$, besides GG is with K2 promotions and he will deffinetely want the Chavez fight if it's available later on. Smartest move he's made since......well ever.
